Animation and 3D Modeling, Year 3

Working with Maya's Nurbs system...

for the creation of my jandel I have found it quite hard due to the fact that the object is very organic in its form. I have tried to make it in polygons but have found getting the rounding of the edges as close to the image as posible a difficult task. So I have turned to Nurbs Surfaces, I have found that it is a lot easier to get the shapes and one once you know the basics of nurbs to structure the object things become a lot simpler.

The two things I have learned from this experience... Choose a blockier object next time and if you sit down and give this programme a bit of your time you will get the hang of it.

There are two work flows for my self that I would like to work on, polygon and nurb surface modeling.

3D Environments, Year 3

Here are some photos I took for inspiration for some environments that I would like to work on. They were taken close to my home in red beach.

Research: While modeling highly detailed objects or environments I found it a lot easier to have a vague idea of how you want your environments laid out, understand how you want want your images framed and understanding how the lighting is going to effect all these things is very important. this understanding makes it easier for a individual to use there vue files in conjunction with other programs such as photoshop, after effects and maya. without a well rounded work flow you will find your self working infinitely harder for lesser results. So for me especially it is very important to discover and be aware of the workflow for maximum results.

AfterEffects, Year 3

I am trying to my hand out at after effects to help develop my showreel for the end of the year. Here is a galaxy ball that I created. I expect to use it in an extended animation that I have planned to create next semester.

3D Environments, Year 3

Here is a mountain range that I created for atmospheric practice, this was necessary for me to help form a better understanding for how the atmosphere editor could be manipulated.

3D Environments, Year 3

I have been practicing in Vue 9 to get my render times lower while still getting as much detail I possibly can. By cutting down on my polygon count I have found that I get much better results. These are two similar island renders that I created under 50.000 polygon count. Render time was reduced to an hour and a half on my Mac Book Pro.

Creative Principles and Practice, Year 3

Cityhop final hand in

Web application is basically a type in your location and find the closest location of a cityhop vehicle, it will also tell you the distance and any other details that may need to be known for your journey.

The I-Phone application works around the same principles.

Creative Principles and Practice, Year 3

Final hand in for cityhop project.

Objective: To make people aware of and want to try cityhop using ambient outdoor advertising and or an online or smart phone application.

So with the rise in fuel prices and it affecting other areas that our target market tends to put there hard earned dollars into we decided to directly strike them where they have been hurting... there pockets.

We came up with a flyer that would go over the fuel cap of a car so as they go to the gas station to fill up, the image of a sink drain would give them the impression that they money was being spent on something that seemed to be going down the drain. therefore giving them the idea that they should look into alternative options such as cityhop

The same concept was used for a parking ticket dispenser, as they have struggled through auckland traffic and stressfully tried to find cheap and accessible parking. They get out of there car to get there ticket put there money into the machine as the money goes down they look down to see a image of money at the bottom of a drain. prompting a similar response as the fuel cap flyer.
