Vimeo, Year 3

Filming on Location

So we finally got out to our location in Pink Beach it was beautiful but cold, windy and wet are things that will make or break anybodies will to work. Luckily for us we had some awesome actors who pushed on through these trials and were very willing to our every direction. I can not say this enough but we got very lucky with these two so there is big thank you going going gone to Clint and his son who made our lives so much easier... Cheers guys.

The two days we out there was a journey so here are some images of behind the scenes stuff.

I reminisce on a conversation I had with Seamus my team mate for this project. After the days filming we thought about how big budget movies can get things wrong. Man when it comes down to all the things it takes just to get a few minutes footage there is just so much that goes into it all. Such as just getting to the locations, making sure your actors are there and happy, having the correct resources and not leaving behind. If we had trouble with these things I cant even imagine how it must be for a big budget film.

So lessons learned? Be prepared and prepare to find out how unprepared you actually are and adapt.

Vimeo, Year 3

Location Scouting

Today was a good day for finding the perfect location, weather was perfect and the light was easy. We found one of our locations from our main actor, for the bath tub scenes in our film. While the other is found not to far from omaha beach for the high and low cliff scenes. It all seems to be getting traction on the film now which is a good sign since we have a lot to do in a short period of time.

Also a second thought was put onto the sounds of the film, since we have some talented musicians in our team it looks like raw footage and our own compositions will be our key.

Creative Principles and Practice, Year 3

2011 Newspaper Competition

We are either to choose to advertise politics or gaming with news papers as our focus to design, yet still effective enough to be use as multimedia campaign.

Sold on APN is a great resource for this project.

Animation and 3D Modeling, Year 3

Common Ground

Lessons learned through my research into 3D environments and 3D modeling and the common factors has been eye opening for me although it should have just been obvious. Using shaders, nodes and editors is where the real knowledge should have more emphasis. Why? Because they are the bread and butter of the industry. If you dont have a strong knowledge into these things then what ever it is you are trying to create is not going to be up to scratch and unrealistc.

Basically it is best to have a in-depth knowlegde into these things work. Otherwise your work will always be second rate. But what I have discovered is that having a great knowledge of just one of the programes that im using now eg. Maya makes it easier for an individual to transfer there skills and knowledge to the other.

Also a fundamental knowledge into photoshop and a bit of mathematics will put you even farther ahead. This is because realism in 3d comes primarily from photoshop and mathematics makes node work a educated decision rather than straight out guess work.

In knowing all of this there is still more or greater need of specialists in this type of industry so if you have real skills in photography for example it would be a great advantage in your search for real world work. Just some things to keep in mind.

Animation and 3D Modeling, Year 3

Working with Maya's Nurbs system...

for the creation of my jandel I have found it quite hard due to the fact that the object is very organic in its form. I have tried to make it in polygons but have found getting the rounding of the edges as close to the image as posible a difficult task. So I have turned to Nurbs Surfaces, I have found that it is a lot easier to get the shapes and one once you know the basics of nurbs to structure the object things become a lot simpler.

The two things I have learned from this experience... Choose a blockier object next time and if you sit down and give this programme a bit of your time you will get the hang of it.

There are two work flows for my self that I would like to work on, polygon and nurb surface modeling.

3D Environments, Year 3

Here are some photos I took for inspiration for some environments that I would like to work on. They were taken close to my home in red beach.

Research: While modeling highly detailed objects or environments I found it a lot easier to have a vague idea of how you want your environments laid out, understand how you want want your images framed and understanding how the lighting is going to effect all these things is very important. this understanding makes it easier for a individual to use there vue files in conjunction with other programs such as photoshop, after effects and maya. without a well rounded work flow you will find your self working infinitely harder for lesser results. So for me especially it is very important to discover and be aware of the workflow for maximum results.

AfterEffects, Year 3

I am trying to my hand out at after effects to help develop my showreel for the end of the year. Here is a galaxy ball that I created. I expect to use it in an extended animation that I have planned to create next semester.
